In conjunction with the launch this week of the INFINITI Q Inspiration at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (which we'll be detailing for you tomorrow), Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa announced that the company's luxury division plans to add new electric and hybrid-powertrain vehicles to its lineup starting in 2021.

The new vehicles will feature next-generation powertrains that will replace those currently in use in current INFINITI models.

Among the new models that will developed, some will be all-electric while others will feature a new hybrid system called "e-POWER". This will be comprised of a small gasoline engine that recharges a large-capacity battery, similar to the Chevrolet Volt's system, for example.

INFINITI's plan calls for over half of its global sales to consist of electric-powered vehicles by 2025.
