Brothers Kuno and Nick Wittmer will take to the track this coming weekend at New-Jersey newest facility where the 10thround of the Grand-Am Koni Challenge will be held.
They will be back with their usual i-Moto co-drivers Peter Cunningham and team owner Glenn Bocchino in the #31 and 32 Acura TSX.
Kuno is seven points shy of first place in the standings with three rounds to go and he hopes to take advantage of the twisty Thunderbolt Raceway to earn his first victory this season ahead of very powerful machines.
"Thunderbolt is a new racetrack for everybody, claims Kuno, and we will use every minute of the practice sessions to learn the track and find the proper setup for the cars. Since Nick is not involved in the championship because of his mechanical mishaps, he will help us reach the best setup."
The last weekends have not been as easy for the Wittmer brothers: they had to settle for 5thplace in the Koni Challenge round at Trois-Rivières, which they had won outright last year.
"We were a tad short on power, adds Nick. Compared to last year, some cars were so fast on the backstretch that we couldn't pass them."
In the Canadian Touring series, Kuno fell early in the Lombardi Honda Civic. "I was starting from first row of the 40-car grid, follows Kuno, but some guy made a desperate move from three rows behind and thought he would get away with it. He collected me and another car and our day was done."
In the second race, our start position was determined by the results of the first: so I started way back and inched my way through the pack into 5thoverall before a mechanical gremlin from the previous race sidelined me again."
Back on his favorite track in the World Challenge series, Kuno Wittmer came away with a deserving fourth place in Mosport last weekend. "Peter and I took advantage of cars going off in the last lap to take 3rdand 4th. We still have one round at Road Atlanta to determine the champion, but it will be a Realtime driver."
The Wittmer brothers are at New-Jersey Thunderbolt Raceway this weekend in the Acuras of Team i-Moto in the Grand-Am ST class Koni Challenge.
Two practice sessions are scheduled Friday at 1:00 and 4:10 PM. Qualifying session will take place Saturday at 10:25 AM. The 2:30-hour race will go green Sunday morning at 8:45
