The 2012 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will also feature a curtain-raising contest for historic Group C cars.

The 45-minute race will highlight the event's 80th edition, and commemorate the 30th anniversary of the debuts of the Group C era, that saw manufacturers such as Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Toyota and Mercedez-Benz fight for World Endurance Championship glory.

It was back in 1982 that Derek Bell and Jacky Ickx, aboard their Rothmans Porsche 956, took victory of the first 24 Hours of Le Mans contested under the Group C regulations.
