For 2011 the official pre-race Le Mans test is back and in its old early season slot. The one day session takes a slightly different format to that of the past, with cars not entered for the race able to run such as the Peugeot 908 Hybrid 4 and ORECA FLM09 for example.
For other cars like the Lotus Evora GTE and Audi R18 it will be their first public outing. Some cars built to the new LMP regulations will be able to run the new low drag bodies for the first time too.
The three Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18 TDI cars will be action for the first time in public this weekend in Le Mans.
Audi said in a press release they have worked extremely hard to reduce as much as possible the weight of the R18 because of even greater significance since this year’s regulations stipulate smaller engines producing less power. For the Audi R18 TDI, this means a drop to 540 horsepower.
