Despite rising fuel prices, insurance costs and the slow but sure depletion of the worlds oil, cars like the Chrysler 300C SRT8, Audi S6 and BMW M5 are rolling examples of the fact that there is still a market for high-horsepower luxury vehicles.

But these machines might have another contender to deal with, as Lincoln recently released information on it's new MKR Concept. A strikingly elegant four-door coupe, the MKR boasts many nature-friendly qualities, inspired styling and a new engine that's sure to snap a few necks.

Outside, a muscular, chamfered beltline visually separates the massive 21-inch chrome wheels and uncluttered door panels from the roofline. The taillamps are illuminated via ultra-bright LED's which span the width of the machine. Up front, the dramatic Lincoln grille is applied in an exaggerated manner, inspired from the Continental Cabriolet from over 65 years ago.

The oversized star badge and lithe headlamp assemblies look impressive sharing the same space on the grille, though the really impressive hardware is a few inches behind them, under the hood.

In order to deliver staggering performance and respectable fuel consumption, Lincoln has introduced the Twin Force engine family. Under the MKR's hood? 3.5 litres of direct-injected V6 married to a pair of turbochargers- a combination good for 415 horsepower and 400 lb. ft. of torque. Power is routed to the road through a paddle-shift gearbox.

No doubt the engine will use its fair share of gasoline, though attention to the environment in other areas might put owners consciences at bay. The dash, for instance, is made from recycled black oak, the seats are soy-foam based, and the leather that covers them is treated using a chromium-free process. Natural materials are used elsewhere too- for instance Mohair in the carpet, and a wool headliner for a distinct textural experience.

While on board their environmentally conscious express, owners can enjoy the magnificently crafted cabin which is illuminated by one of the most advanced interior lighting systems available. Ice Blue lighting is used to illuminate the instruments and controls, though its also emitted from in and behind certain often-overlooked interior elements like the console, door panels or even the giant Lincoln star badge which adorns most of the glass roof.

The ice-blue system comes in light of recent information indicating that consumers rank lighting accessories and techniques as important style decisions at home. Lincoln, being less about machines and more about a certain luxurious and simple lifestyle, has embraced this concept for its MKR.
Stay tuned for more details.
