Maser to Duke It Out with Porsche in the North American Grand-Am Championship
As most are now aware, it wasn't long ago that Maserati officially returned to North America. The once dominant motorsport brand and track rival to current parent Ferrari has created some of the world's finest GT and sports cars.

To celebrate its return to North America, add to its racing heritage and hopefully increase brand awareness, Maserati has created the Trofeo (Trophy) Light, a full-on race car for competition in the North American Grand-Am championship, as well as the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The car will show up in the 2004 series starting February, 2004 and go wheel-to-wheel with such marques as Porsche and Panoz, among others.

To attain the final product, as seen here, Maserati put the Coupé Cambiocorsa on a strict weight-loss program. Every last creature comfort, from the fine leather seats to the premium audio system has been removed in the name of racing, the car's power-to-weight ratio being optimized.
A full roll cage has been added, with a race seat the only comfort in a thoroughly stripped out interior. At the end of the day the Trofeo Light tips the scales at the maximum restricted weight of 1,150 kilos (2,535 lbs), dry.
