Obviously very satisfied with their entry-level Mazda3, the people at Mazda proudly announced their sales numbers for 2004. Even with a lack of inventory that dramatically impeded sales, Mazda still managed to sell 23 802 Mazda3s in Quebec; a 5.4% increase over the 2003 Protegé. By default, the Mazda3 became the best selling car in Quebec and the third best for the rest of Canada. They also mentionned that they now hold a 4.8% share of the Canadian market which means that nearly 1 out of 20 cars sold, is a Mazda.

Amongst the premieres, Mazda introduced the fantastic MazdaSpeed Mazda6. It stands out not only because of its looks but because of its mechanical underpinnings. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.3L 4 cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a sophisticated AWD system. Thanks to its 274 hp and 280 lb/ft of toruqe, the super 6 will travel from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 6 seconds. The price range begins at $35,995 for a base model and reaches $38,795 for the tops.

As with the MazdaSpeed 6, Mazda presented in a Canadian Premiere the very novel and interesting Mazda5. It is a cross between a compact wagon and minivan. Along the same lines as the Nissan Axxess, the Mazda5 allows a small familly to get behind the wheel of a spacious, economical and versatile car at a lower cost. There are 3 rows of seats for 5 or 7 passangers in the 5 and thankfully, the last one can be folded flat to ease loading of larger objects. Built on the same chassis as the Mazda3, it is also equipped with the 2.3L 4 cylinder engine from the 3 Sport. It develops 157 hp. Pricing has not yet been announced but the first Mazda5s should arrive in dealerships by next June.
