Will we see it in North America?

Better known for its luxurious passenger cars and utility vehicles, Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled a brand new pickup truck concept called X-Class at the Artipelag art gallery in Stockholm, Sweden.

A midsize pickup by Mercedes was initially rumoured in the spring of 2015. Now, we see it actually taking shape, promising all the strengths of a classic pickup―tough, functional, strong, off-road capability―in a package that’s attractive as an urban lifestyle and family vehicle, the silver star claims.

“With the Mercedes-Benz pickup, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio,” said Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “We want to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The X-Class will set new standards in a growing segment.”

The market launch of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup in Europe will begin in late 2017 through a production agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Australia and South Africa will follow, and then Latin American countries like Argentina and Brazil in 2018. No word yet about North America.
