Good things really do come in small packages...

Each manufacturer wholeheartedly believes in its brand. They believe in their vehicles, their performance abilities and their overall product. They will even say they are number one in their advertising and sales pitches. But, how many manufacturers would willingly line up their vehicles against their immediate competition, then ask the public to test drive the cars back-to-back and make a valid choice, proving that they really are the leaders they claim to be? Not many...but MINI would, and did.

MINI is known for its cheeky advertising and in-your-face marketing techniques. The attitude-filled little 3-door has quite a presence on the road and even more of a presence on our local billboards. Instantly recognizable, the MINI Coopers are cute on the outside and regular little trouble-makers behind their grinning front grilles. And with an updated turbocharged engine, the new Cooper S might look sweet, but it's a real beast.

The new 2007 MINI Cooper S' brand-new turbocharged engine pushes out 172 hp that will have you jump from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 7.1 seconds. And with 177 lb-ft of max torque available between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm, the Cooper S is like a ticking time bomb, just waiting for your foot to rev the explosive engine into gear. With go-kart handling--the commercials don't lie--the Cooper S is a joy to drive through any conditions, and MINI set out to prove that with their MINI Challenge relay course.

To prove that it really is number one in its class, both for the base Cooper and Cooper S, MINI constructed a circuits and bumps course that really set out to showcase the MINIs' strongest points, and its most important ones. Complete with angled ABS-inducing stops, slalom turns and a straightaway that ended in a sudden slam on the brakes, the course may have looked simple, but it was clear that the MINIs competitors struggled where the MINIs excelled.

So, now you're wondering who these poor, ailing, unable-to-perform competitors were, aren't you?
