Formula 1... Well, Maybe Former 1
With Formula 1 on 'vacation' for a few weeks, there are still some things going on, but one of the most interesting can only be
described as a 'blast from the past'. The Grand Prix Masters race held at Kylami, South Africa - which I personally think is one of the best circuits on the planet - includes some names that can conjure up the good old days of Formula 1.
Nigel Mansell led from start to finish, fending off Emerson Fittipaldi for the first ever Grand Prix Masters victory; Riccardo Patrese was a distant third, ahead of a squabbling pack led by Andrea de Cesaris.
The most interesting part of the whole weekend was probably that Andrea de Cesaris (who was affectionately known in his F1 days as Andrea de Crasherous) actually brought a car home in one piece - news in itself. The list
of names competing incorporated some of the more famous of days gone by. One can only hope that this series grows, and in a perfect world, such would run as a support race to a regular F1 race in the near future.
