RB: Have you had a chance to drive the new Corvette Z06 - they are starting to filter into Canada, but everyone would like to
know just how does it compare to previous models... okay, what we really want to know is, how cool is it?
RF: The Z06 is as close as you can get to the C6-R for the street. It's quite a sports car. I was fortunate to be able to do a little development driving with the production team and couldn't believe that this was what they intended to deliver to the street. Tame when it needs to be and bad fast in a straight line and around corners when you put in on a race track. I want one!
RB: Finally, we can't leave you without asking about Nextel Cup. Again, you had good runs this year, but I'm guessing not as good as you would have liked. What is on the schedule for 2006, and do you think we will see a NASCAR race in Canada anytime soon?
RF: My NASCAR venture did not turn out as well as I or the Tide Chevy team would have liked. I think that if I had been able to carry on at DEI, we
would have had better results in '05. We had developed a pretty decent chassis at DEI and were in position to win 2 of the 3 races I did for them, but that deal didn't come together. So it was like starting over again working with Cal Wells and the PPI team. We learned a lot and we all have a better understanding of what's required to prepare to compete and do well on a road course at the Nextel Cup level. We will be better prepared in '06 for any NASCAR races that I do. As far as an event in Canada is concerned, if it happens, it will likely not be until 2007. There is so much demand for all of the NASCAR series' that scheduling is difficult. And given our short season in terms of ideal weather, your options become even more limited. Will it happen? Yes. I just hope that it happens sooner than later because I want to be in the race!
