Alex Tagliani and Formula 1 ex-champion Jacques Villeneuve were happy following the first practice session held on the Trois-Rivières Grand Prix street course having finished respectively 1st and 3rd.

Tagliani, in his Chevrolet No 03 worked his way around the 1.53-mile, 10-turn with an average lap speed of 79.957 mph making him the quickest of the afternoon.

The former Conquest Racing’s driver had a slight mechanical problem with his gear shifter at the very beginning of the practice session, but his team was able to make a quick repair and get him back out on the track.

Meanwhile, Jacques Villeneuve, in just his second NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event, posted a time of 69.067 seconds (79.749 mph), good for third on the charts.

“I haven’t raced on this track in about 15 years,” Villeneuve said.

“And I am still getting used to the car. It moves around quite a bit, but it felt really good and by the end of the session, I was pretty comfortable.”

Long-time Montreal Canadiens defenseman Patrice Brisebois impressed everyone as he is making his stock-car racing debut after racing in the amateur Ferrari Challenge for five years. His time of 71.859 seconds (76.650 mph) ranked 19th.
