Brad Keselowski’s late race charge to victory, at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, added insult to Roush Fenway’s injury.
Even Keselowski was a little at a loss for words how he got his win, "I’m not sure what happened at the end of that race. I’m going to have to go back and watch it on TV to fully understand what happened. The 16 (Roush Fenway Mustang of Trevor Bayne) car blew up. The 31 caught on fire. We ended up restarted in second position on the outside lane and I knew that if I could get around the 6 (Ricky Stenhouse’s Jr.) car that we had a shot at the win. I had a great short-run car that could give Ricky a run for his money. If the race was two of three laps longer, I’m sure Ricky would have drove around us."
With 20 laps to go the Roush Fenway cars were running 1-2-3. It was all Stenhouse at the time followed by Bayne, and Carl Edwards. A big crash, towards the middle of the pack, caused a red flag stoppage.
Carl Edwards briefly took the lead coming out of the pits but was penalized for speeding on exiting. He was sent to the back returning Stenhouse to the lead.
Trevor Bayne, the Daytona 500 winner was running a career best second in the Nationwide Series, blows a motor with 12 laps to go.
Then with, two laps go, Brad Keselowski muscles past Stenhouse, who led a race-high 189 laps, but the crashing didn’t end there.
One more crash sends the race into NASCAR overtime and Keselowski held off Stenhouse for the win.
"Brad is just a little better on restarts than us," said Stenhouse. "We’re just little too tight on the restart."
Ricky Stenhouse now leads Reed Sorenson, by three points, for the series championship. Elliott Sadler is third 24 points back.
