Carl Edwards said "This is a huge weekend for us. We came in here terrible."
Knowing that the Sprint Cup series title was more important than a Nationwide race Edwards got permission from that his Nationwide sponsor to stay in California. Edwards explained “we stayed for practice that was the call of the weekend. It was a really good effort; it was great to come together. Early in the race we were terrible.
There were many crashes in the 110-lap race but the most spectacular was on lap 87 when Brian Vickers who had been pushed, spun and damaged in the hairpin by Tony Stewart pounded Stewart from behind going into the hairpin spinning him around with the Stewarts car ending up backwards in the air on the tires.
Jeff Gordon, who didn’t see the incident, said "I thought he throttle stuck. From what I heard he had a little help in there," he said with a smile.

Tony Stewart said, after the race, "I dumped him earlier for blocking and he got me back later on. If guys want to block then they are going to wreck every time. Until NASCAR makes a rule against it, I am going to dump them every time for it. He did what he had to do, I don’t blame him, there is nothing wrong with it."
Brian Vickers wasn’t surprised nor was apologetic either "he wrecked me and I wrecked him."
