Ride and handling depends upon a four-wheel independent suspension system that features MacPherson struts in the front and a four-link design in the rear. Bunnell says the coupe and convertible models are similar to the G6 sedan in the way they are ''tuned to provide a controlled, sporty ride with reduced body roll during cornering. GTP models are tuned for optimal performance driving, including the use of a hydraulic power steering system.''
All coupe and convertible models come with four-wheel disc brakes and four-channel ABS, as well as an optional traction control system, while Pontiac 's Dynamic Vehicle Control System is available only on the GTP models.
Seventeen-inch wheels are standard on G6 GT and GTP coupes, Bunnell says, with 18-inch wheels and performance tires available. All G6 convertibles are equipped with 18-inch wheels and tires.
''Whether it's the coupe or convertible,'' says Bunnell, ''these cars were designed to perform to the expectations of enthusiast drivers. They're great because they fit so many of us. Families living in the north can justify even the convertible -- there's room and the top will keep out the elements."
Other highlights of the G6 that Bunnell makes note of include:
- unique rear end styling with a ''bold'' taillamp design
- indexing door window glass on coupe and convertible models
- a rear-seat console with cup holders in the coupe
- remote keyless entry
- reflective-optic headlamps and projector-beam fog lamps
- leather-wrapped steering wheel and highly-bolstered sports seats
- optional leather and heated seating
- a ''premium'' audio system with in-dash six-CD changer
- optional side and head curtain air bags, though only on the coupe only
- remote start, which may be optional in Canada
- an optional sunroof on the coupe only
- optional OnStar safety, security and navigation system
- optional XM satellite radio, but not until the Canadian government approves it later this year

The two-piece clamshell-style retractable hardtop was engineered with input from German coachbuilder Karmann, Bunnell says, and it is the world's largest retractable unit. ''A long top was necessary to enclose the spacious interior,'' Bunnell notes, and the top's backlight is glass with a standard defogger.
A double-hinged trunk lid allows for stowage of the top. ''It opens like a conventional trunk for cargo storage,'' Bunnell says, ''but is reverse-hinged to accept the folding hardtop.''
