Most of these say their Impreza is a fun-to-drive machine with plenty of all-weather confidence and surprisingly generous interior space. Look for manual or automatic transmissions, and both sedan and 5-door models. Available upscale features and full dealer support for accessories helped round out the package.
What to Check: When test driving a 2008 to 2011 Impreza, be sure to check the windshield for an oily, greasy film that may impede vision. This may be more visible at night, and could indicate a problem with a leaky heater core that’s allowing coolant to “evaporate” onto the glass. Damp footwell carpeting could be evidence of a plugged sunroof drain or an improperly sealed body seam. Check underneath for signs of leakage from the differential/transaxle, and be sure the trunk/tailgate latch works properly. Finally, confirm proper operation of the air conditioner. For proper AWD system durability and operation, budget for a fluid change if you’re unsure of the vehicle’s service records.
