2nd place - Lexus RX 350
While it didn't win, the Lexus RX 350 was a close second. Pricey options and a general lack of flavour resulting from the uninspiring driving dynamics doomed the little Japanese.

With regard to styling, it's really hard to find fault with the redesigned RX. Despite the fresh new lines for 2010, there are no dramatic changes to report about. Lexus fans will immediately recognize it, while our jury felt like the exterior design is not assertive enough given the character of the vehicle.

The interior got everyone's approval, though. In typical Lexus fashion, fit and finish is impeccable and the overall layout is enhanced by a cozy atmosphere, almost like in a sumptuous manor hall.

Of course, you benefit from ample comfort and innovative technologies like the Remote Touch controller, which vibrates when you browse over a clickable area so as to help you avoid fixing the screen.

One regret inside is that the available room -- both for passengers and cargo -- fails to match the other two contenders.

That said, the real handicap of this Lexus is the sheer lack of thrills behind the wheel. While there's plenty of power on tap and accelerations were the quickest, the suspension is excessively soft and way too much power assistance has been dialed into the steering. Consequently, the driver enjoys very little feedback from the road. At least ride quality is undeniable, as the Lexus proved to be by far the most comfortable on rough pavement.

"If your priorities include comfort and technology, the Lexus RX 350 will spoil you. It's also a capable yet fuel-efficient machine with many other qualities. It's a shame the driving experience is so dull."
