This past weekend saw the much anticipated debut of the MINI WRC Team on the gravel stages of Sardinia. Here's a video showing some behind-the-scene action from MINI's maiden rally.
Team drivers, Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo, had contrasting fortunes during the rally but ultimately the overriding feeling was one of positivity and optimism with their performance being officially recognized when they were presented with the Abu Dhabi Spirit of Rally Award.
With the MINI WRC Team contesting six rounds in 2011, the focus has been placed firmly on gathering information and ensuring the car is ready for a full season in 2012. Early indications look extremely promising as Kris Meeke was showing an excellent amount of raw speed before a technical problem with his throttle forced him off the road and ended his rally prematurely.
Spaniard Dani Sordo, competing in the WRC for the first time since the British Rally of 2010, consistently posted competitive times and arrived at the ceremonial finish in Olbia in sixth place overall.
