Finland’s Marcus Gronholm could join the MINI Prodrive programme, which will probably make its debut in the World Rally Championship next season.
Gronholm, who clinched the World Championship in 2000 and 2002 with Peugeot, admitted he was in talks with Prodrive and could make his return to competition in 2011, driving for MINI.
Norvegian driver Mad Ostberg is expected to perform initial testing of the Mini, and could join the factory team next year as the team’s second driver
Now part of the BMW group, MINI may soon unveil its World Rally Championship programme with David Richards’ Prodrive.
Prodrive ran the works Subarus for years in the FIA WRC series.
The MINIs are expected to enter competition in May 2011 at the Rally Sardegna.
Gronholm, 42-year old this year, drove for Peugeot and Ford in WRC and contested some rallies last year.
