Speed, power and flexibility combine in the market's latest hot-rod SUV models
Model: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

Starting Price: $62,995

Overview: Legendary Jeep styling and legendary HEMI firepower culminate in this hot-rod Grand Cherokee variant. Tuned by the folks at Chrysler’s SRT department, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 features Brembo brakes, a lowered suspension, exclusive cosmetic upgrades, functional brake ducting, and a massive dual-outlet exhaust. Under the hood: a 6.4L 470-horsepower version of the HEMI V8.

Power drives all four wheels permanently through an intelligent AWD system, and a drive selector mode allows drivers to set the SRT8 up for snow, pavement or a track surface at the flick of a dial. Further, a Launch Control function can be enabled at the touch of a button for blazing fast off-the-line starts.

Feature content includes a panoramic sunroof, xenon lights, remote start, adaptive cruise control, and plenty more.

Pros: The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 delivers world-class sport-ute performance at a highly attainable price. The looks and presence on the road are second to none, and so is the exhaust note at full throttle.

Cons: The 6.4L SRT HEMI engine will put fuel away in a hurry when driven hard, and the lowered suspension and front air dams mean owners can forget about tackling trails.

Noteworthy: The big HEMI gets Chrysler’s Multi Displacement System (MDS), which switches half the cylinders off during gentle driving or cruising to save fuel. Look for carbon fibre and suede accents inside, as well as performance metre readouts in the central display screen. Add the 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system for the ultimate listening experience when you aren’t blasting music from the tailpipes.
