Performance carmaker Spyker showed their latest work to crowds at the New York Auto Show earlier today. Riding a lengthened chassis and boasting traditionally unconventional Dutch styling elements, the C8 Aileron is a sleek, hand-built supercar that rides an advanced new chassis.

Styling elements include numerous vents, blades and grilles that signal the brand's roots in the aviation industry and give it a distinctive and unique presence. The upward-opening doors and LED-string running lamps were hits with those in attendance, and the C8 Aileron comes standard with a polished aluminum roof and splitters for the front and sides of the car.

Power comes from a 4.2-litre Audi V8 engine attached to a six-speed Getrag manual transmission. A six-speed automatic with paddle-shift is available as well. The engine develops 400 horsepower and breathes out through a sport-tuned exhaust system with an optional 'whisper' mode.

Despite the serious performance intentions conveyed by the C8's styling, Spyker stressed that the Aileron is also a comfortable and well equipped rocket. A keyless ignition, leather interior, tilt and telescoping steering and aluminum accents are included.

Company officials say that the C8 Aileron will bring the re-born specialty brand to sustainable profitability in the near future.
