Canadian race driver Maryeve Dufault is now part of the development program of the FAZZT Race Team and will be contesting at least three rounds of the Star Mazda Series over the course of the 2010 season.
The native of Sorel, Quebec will begin her season at the Star Mazda test at O'Reilly Raceway Park on May 5 and 6 and then run the Night Before the 500 on May 29 at O'Reilly Raceway Park, the Iowa Speedway event on June 20 and then her home event at Trois-Rivieres on August 15.
“I met Alexandre Tagliani (FAZZT IndyCar driver) some five or six years ago,” Maryeve told Auto123.com in an exclusive interview.
“I was racing karts at that time and he helped me a lot. We then worked together on various sponsorship projects. I did a few races in the Star Mazda and Formula BMW USA series, and I also tested a Formula 3 car in England and a Formula Renault in Zhuhai, China.”
She continued: “Earlier this year, Alex introduced me to the FAZZT team and it went extremely well. I talked about my career with team boss Jim Freudenberg. The team now handles my career. Working together, we found a sponsor for me to contest these three Star Mazda races. If they find more money, I’ll be able to do more races.”
Dufault is a hard racer and works extremely hard to make a career in motorsport. “I getting prepared by racing my Rotax DD2 karts as often as possible,” she said.
“I also work with David Coulthard’s former trainer, Simon of Performance Physixx. His training program focuses on the muscle groups that are essential in driving a race car.”
Maryeve is looking forward to the challenge and she can’t wait to take the start of her first race of 2010. “I am going to contest my first race of the season on an oval,” she told us. “It will be quite special and thrilling. But I look forward to the challenge. Luckily, I know the car and I will be able to focus on finding the right set-up for me. I am really, really happy to be part of the FAZZT program. I have worked very hard during the past few years to make this happen. I’ve been patient, and I’ve been rewarded.”
If sponsorship is found, Maryeve could also race in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series. “We are working on finding the money to run the Trois-Rivieres and Montreal races. Nothing has been signed yet, but to be honest it looks promising. Fingers crossed!” said Maryeve.
