The Tesla Model S and Model X have an impressive array of features and attributes, and pretty soon they’ll be able to add “Capable of surviving a military-grade bio attack” to the list.

That’s right: The electric car manufacturer has just developed and successfully tested a Bioweapon Defense Mode that consists of a highly advanced HEPA filtration system, The Detroit Bureau reports.

How did it work? A Tesla Model X was placed in a large bubble contaminated with extreme levels of pollution, after which the engineers closed the doors and activated Bioweapon Defense Mode.

“In less than two minutes, the HEPA filtration system had scrubbed the air in Model X, bringing pollution levels from an extremely dangerous 1,000 µg/m3 to levels so low as to be undetectable (below the noise floor) by our instruments, allowing us to remove our gas masks and breathe fresh air while sitting inside a bubble of pollution,” the Tesla blog said.

Not only that, but in the ensuing minutes, it began to vacuum the air outside the Model X, as well, reducing pollution levels by 40%.

“In other words, Bioweapon Defense Mode is not a marketing statement, it is real. You can literally survive a military-grade bio attack by sitting in your car,” Tesla proclaimed.

Tesla posted a video on his Twitter account.
