The Model 3 accounted for 79,837 of the total number sold

Last year for Tesla was largely a year of questions regarding production capacity. This was especially so in the case of the Model 3, which at the outset was not leaving the factory at the pace hoped for by the company.

Slowly but surely, Tesla was able to increase the number of units it was producing. Initially the goal for the Model 3 was to hit 5,000 vehicles per week, and the company slowly brought that number up.

Which brings us to the just ended third quarter of 2019, in which the automaker delivered its higher total of units ever, around 97,000.

Exactly 96,155 vehicles were assembled by Tesla during the period, which also represents a new record. Of those 79,837 were Model 3s. There was more good news for the manufacturer as orders also hit a new high during Q3 – and the end of the year is looking promising as well. Production capacity continues to climb right along with the rise in the number of orders.

Tesla also reported that most of the new orders for the Model 3 were by consumers who had not previously placed an order, meaning that the original orders placed for the EV have all been filled.

The aim over the next quarter of 2019 is to surpass the 100,000 unit mark for deliveries, which would allow the company to meet Elon Musk’s stated goal for the year of delivering between 360,000 and 400,000 units.
