6 – Audi AI:Trail Concept
Auto shows, let’s not forget, have always been places to showcase completely insane prototypes. This year two stood out in Frankfurt, including this oversized extra-terrestrial insect presented by German automaker Audi. The AI:Trail looks like it clambered straight out of a sci-fi comic book and shows just how much more creative designers can get when working with an electric-vehicle configuration.
7 – Hyundai 45 EV
Hyundai is also in the midst of a major shift to electric mobility, and having already introduced a few electric vehicles, now comes a retro-futuristic design study that also grabbed a ton of attention in Frankfurt. The 45 EV concept on display at the show is an interesting piece of design with extra meaning for the company. It marks 45 years since the introduction of the historic Pony prototype, the production version of which put the fledgling Korean automaker on the map. But even better, the new vehicle also takes inspiration from the shape of the original concept while giving it a generous touch of the company’s design signature intended for its future electric vehicles.
