9th place: Toyota Corolla – 18,853 units
Say what you will about the Corolla’s driving excitement—or lack thereof—Toyota’s compact sedan is a roomy, user-friendly and affordable car that’s cheap on gas and satisfies the needs of a whole bunch of Canadians. A reputation of bulletproof reliability doesn’t hurt, either.
The Corolla is available in several trim levels, including the bread-and-butter CE, the upscale LE, the sporty S and the even sportier XRS. A 132-hp, 1.8-litre engine is found in all versions except the XRS, which benefits from a 158-hp, 2.4-litre engine.
It’s worth noting that the 18,853 sales don’t include the Matrix, which is basically a hatchback version of the Corolla and shares its mechanicals; the Matrix sold 7,154 copies so far this year.
