We end this quick tour of nostalgia-themed branding in the automotive world with the Supra from Toyota. Here too, there was some controversy at the beginning, mainly because fans of the original were worried that they would find themselves in front of something different than hoped for.

Truth is, there was no way the new Supra was going to be all that similar to the car of yore, if only because the evolution of the model was such since the first Supra (1979) appeared in 1979 that any contemporary product was bound to look very diferent.

Importantly, though, Toyota retained the essence of a top-level sports car with its new Supra. The partnership with BMW, it’s true, left the trub-blue hardcore fans of Japanese-style performance dissatisfied. But really, without that partnership, the new Supra would simply have been impossible to produce. Better than nothing, right?
