3 — Chevrolet Blazer

Like Ford has done with the Bronco, so Chevrolet did in 2018 with the Blazer name used priorly for an SUV. This resurrection didn’t really go over as well with fans, however, namely because the new vehicle has nothing to do with the Blazer K5 that appeared in the late 1960s as a competitor to the... Ford Bronco. To the point where the new Blazer even took some visual elements from the Camaro, just like the Mach-E did with the Mustang.

But consider that if Chevrolet had used the Z28 name, for example, it would have met with criticism no less ferocious. In mining its rich past for a name, in other words, Chevrolet was in a lose-lose situation with its new Blazer.

But as they say, time heals all wounds, or at least some. Like this one, maybe. The grumbling over the new Blazer’s characteristics and looks has faded, and it is making a name for itself in its own right. It’s as if folks have severed in their minds the connection with the original model. And that will be even more true when the Blazer goes all-electric in 2024.

Hit or miss? Miss, but looking more like a hit as time passes
