We’re back to Ford and its, granted, very rich repository of classic model names to go digging around in. Here we have the return of the Maverick name. And in this case, not a peep was heard in protest. This is probably because the original model hadn’t exactly seared itself into the collective memory of automotive fans in its lifetime. The original Maverick was a small economy car, and let’s just say its career at Ford was more fourth-line plumber than first-line centre. It was gone and, largely, forgotten.

Plus, the name itself is just a great one to attach to a vehicle model. With the Maverick nameplate now associated with a compact pickup, the name has been given a new lease on life and ahead looms a career that promises to be more successful and impactful.
