5. Toyota Tundra
Japanese automotive giant Toyota has not yet announced if it will revise its big, made-in-the USA Tundra pickups, but we’ll be watching it closely since the company’s truck division has just gotten a new boss, who happens to be an American and a big fan of pickups! In the meantime, Toyota is still offering its large Tundra powered by a 5.7L gasoline-fed V8, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. As with virtually all the manufacturers, the model’s best performer for towing is a less-luxurious rear-wheel drive trim; it can haul up to 10,400 lbs. There is not yet a diesel engine in the Tundra catalogue, nor is there a more rugged Class 2 or 3 version to pull heavier trailers or caravans.
