AMC Pacer
AMC’s Pacer was a two-door compact car produced for the North American market by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the 1975 through 1980 model-years. In Mexico, the Pacer was marketed from 1976 until 1979 and positioned as a premium-priced luxury car.
The rounded shape and large glass area were unusual compared with the three-box designs of the era. The Pacer's width was equal to full-sized domestic vehicles at the time, and this unique design feature was promoted by AMC as "the first wide small car."
Reviews upon its introduction used descriptions like “futuristic, bold, and unique.” The Pacer featured an aerodynamic "jellybean" styling, numerous innovations such as different door lengths, and was noted “as a space-efficient car, seemingly from the future.”
A 1977 Pacer D/L station wagon was featured in the 1977 movie Oh, God! with John Denver and George Burns. Denver's character Jerry drives the car in several scenes. A 1976 AMC Pacer Hatchback was a featured car in the 1992 movie Wayne's World, and again in the 1993 movie Wayne's World 2. In the 2011 film Cars 2, the character Acer and several other 1975 AMC Pacers serve as supporting antagonists.
