Stories of this model coming down the pike any time soon should be taken with at least a grain of salt, if not a pinch. Indeed, it is not clear that Land Rover will actually go ahead with this project to make a mini-Defender, one even more mini than the 90. Moreover, the name Defender 80 is not official yet. But Land Rover is thinking about it, that’s for sure. Because if the British brand wants to enter the compact adventure vehicle fray - think of the Ford Bronco Sport as a direct rival - the Defender 80 would be a great way to boost overall sales, something it badly needs to do.
