Just as Kia is filling its nest with juicy – and potentially profitable – new utility models, so does Mazda. The new CX-30 is one size above the CX-3, and sits below the CX-5 compact SUV in the lineup.

Toyota has hit a home run with its RAV4 compact SUV, available in both regular and hybrid versions. Starting next year, however, we’ll also be able to choose a plug-in hybrid version. The Toyota RAV4 Prime comes in as a fearsome new opponent of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which is has had the field virtually to itself in this sub-category up to now.

The RAV4 promises as well to deliver a lot of bang for the buck, since the total output of its powertrain is 302 hp (!), with 0-96 km/h taking only 5.8 seconds. All-electric range is given as 60 km, which is also palatable. Toyota means serious business with the RAV4 Prime. Expect to see a lot of them on Canadian roads in the near-future.
