The German manufacturer out of Bavaria is preparing to introduce two purely electric models by the end of the year or early in 2022. In the meantime, compact and mid-size plug-in hybrid crossovers can still be found at your favourite BMW dealer.

In 2020, only the X3 xDrive30i was available, but earlier this year, the X5 xDrive45e was added to the PHEV lineup. The bigger SUV offers a range of 50 km in electric mode, which is significantly better than the X3's 29 km. Despite its increased size and weight, EnerGuide estimates its average fuel consumption at 4.7L/100 km. That compares pretty well to the smaller X3's average of 3.9L/100 km.
