Hyundai Kona Electric
The Government of Canada’s new iZEV program drew a line at cost that excluded two popular “affordable EV models – until one of the manufacturers adjusted their price point in response.
Now, it’s true that the Hyundai Kona Electric’s new $44,999 base price (it was $45,599 before the adjustment) doesn’t exactly make it accessible to all budgets. The same can be said about the Tesla Model 3’s $47,600 base price (and Tesla even stopped offering that base model recently, meaning the Model 3 now starts at $53,700 in Canada!)
Hyundai, though, has made the wise decision to tweak the price point on its popular new EV, so that as of May 1st buyers in Canada will benefit from substantial discounts on the Kona Electric.

Climb beyond these models we’ve included here, and you reach into much more rarified air, with premium EVs like Tesla’s two other models (Model S and Model X), the Jaguar I-PACE and the highly anticipated upcoming Audi e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Porsche Taycan, just to name those. None of these are going to be priced anywhere near the cutoff point to be eligible for discounts under the new Canadian government’s new iZEV program.
