Porsche shows corner-carving Cayenne to Toronto

Most drivers of premium SUV's don't utilize their off-road abilities beyond the odd gravel road or slushy department store parking lot.

Though the Porsche Cayenne was developed to be a sophisticated off-roading tool, the German performance carmaker just showed the Toronto Auto Show a new model that's intended for the ultimate in on-road SUV performance.

For shoppers who need the space and convenience of an SUV and the handling and performance of a Porsche, the Cayenne GTS will soon go on sale. It's intended to be the best handling Cayenne yet--and engineers have yanked the off-road suspension in favor of a lower-height, higher-performance setup.

Various visual upgrades help distinguish the special model as well.

Cayenne GTS packs a 405-horsepower V8 engine that's based on the powerplant currently found in the Cayenne S. Owners can hook it up to an automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual--which is fantastic. 0-100 km/h flashes by in under 6 seconds.

With a road-slicing suspension and 21-inch wheels, it sounds like this Cayenne GTS is going to be a whole lot of fun. Pricing starts at $86,100.

A new subsidiary called Porsche Cars Canada has been created, and Christian Malti is the new CEO. And here's an interesting fact: 40% of total Porsche sales in Canada are in the Toronto area.
