Toyota has announced that they will offer a special TRD version of the 86 model in 2019. Before you get too excited, put away thoughts of more horsepower or even a turbo engine. We won't see these until the next product redesign.
We wrote about the reasons for this in a previous article that you can read here.
The TRD Special Edition that will be added to the 86's catalogue will be sportier, however. Positioned at the top of the hierarchy, the TRD will receive many performance enhancing improvements. We can tell you that it will be equipped with Brembo brakes, Sachs suspension components, 18" alloy wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, as well as an exhaust made by TRD (Toyota Racing Development).
The car will also receive unique TRD graphics on both sides as well as a trim-specific three-piece spoiler.
For now, no images of it have been released.
Mechanically, as explained from the outset, the engine will not change; it's 2.0L, 205-horsepower, 4-cylinder remains. This special edition is the only trim to get a six-speed manual transmission.
The American price of this version has been announced, and we are waiting for Canadian pricing. To add context, the price difference between the base model and the TRD Special Edition will be about $6,000 USD.
Here, the Toyota 86 list price is $29,990.
