TORONTO- Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today announced a keycustomer satisfaction program designed to emphasize the rewards of properroutine maintenance of Toyota and Lexus products and to ensure customersatisfaction for a very small number of Toyota and Lexus owners who may haveexperienced a condition known as engine oil sludging, which can be caused by alack of proper vehicle maintenance.

"We have developed a special goodwill program and supportingcommunications initiative to remind owners of the importance of regularlyscheduled maintenance" said Stephen Beatty, Vice President of CorporateAffairs of TCI. "By focusing attention on maintenance, it is our aim to ensurethat the purchaser of any Toyota, new or used, can experience the industryleading performance, reliability and value that they expect from theirToyota".

In today's high performance engines, regular maintenance is moreimportant than ever. If oil changes are too infrequent, the oil may break downforming sludge while losing its lubricating properties, leading to increasedengine wear and possible failure. Oil sludging may occur in any make or modelof vehicle if regular, routine maintenance is not performed.

"Across North America, Toyota has observed that a very small number ofengines have been damaged or failed as a result of engine oil sludge"continued Beatty. "Working with the service histories of thousands ofvehicles, Toyota has not found a single instance of sludging in a vehicle thathas been properly serviced according to the manufacturer's recommendedmaintenance schedule."
