Toyota announced it will halt car production at its Japanese plants from February 8-13 due to a parts shortage.

There was recently an explosion at one of the company’s parts suppliers, Aichi Steel, leading to a shortage of engines, transmissions, and other components. Toyota therefore had no choice but to put its local assembly lines on idle for a few days.

A spokesman assured that everything will be done to minimize the impact of this interruption. For instance, other suppliers will be called upon temporarily.

Production at Toyota’s Japanese plants is expected to resume on February 15th. Foreign plants are not affected.
