Vehicle recalls may soon become mandatory in the country. As La Presse reports, Ottawa indeed wants to give Transport Canada the power to force automakers to recall cars when a defect or safety issue is found.
The proposed new legislation, introduced by the Harper administration but postponed by the November 2015 election, would also target parts and accessories manufacturers.
Right now, automakers that refuse to conduct a recall campaign only receive the blame from the federal government. With mandatory recalls, however, those that fail to comply could be hit with hefty fines.
