Volkswagen has the firm intention of becoming the number one automaker in the world and is exploring all possible avenues to do so. The introduction of a more affordable Jetta and an “Americanized” Passat clearly demonstrate VW’s desire to make it to the top by dominating the US market and, consequently, the Canadian one as well. In this vein, we learned today that the manufacturer is toying with the idea of launching a seven-passenger SUV.
The information comes from the head of Volkswagen’s US operations, Jonathan Browning, who said that the ideal model would be more spacious than a Touareg and cheaper as well, making for a very attractive machine in a highly competitive segment.
Given the public’s unconditional love for SUVs and crossovers, VW might just realize its goals of 800,000 units sold by 2018.
The project is still at the fledgling stage, so we were unable to find out more.
