If you play the guitar or if you're a Guitar Hero enthusiast, the name Fender will likely ring a bell. The legendary guitar and bass manufacturer will help design car audio systems for the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle and Jetta GLI.
Featuring a Panasonic interface, the first system will use nine speakers, including front door-mounted units with dual voice coils, to deliver a low-distortion sound for drivers who prefer to listen to their favourite tunes than the engine's growl. It's a bit ironic since Telecaster and Stratocaster guitars are known for producing a lot of distortions!
On the other hand, integrating a Fender stereo into a VW model makes total sense. While premium division Audi offers the more refined and exclusive Bang & Olufsen sound systems, the youth-oriented people's car company promises a more colourful listening experience.
