Volkswagen is currently working on a new 2.0L 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine that produces up to 272 horsepower. We don't know much about the technology employed by the German automaker except that it's apparently similar to the “electric booster” recently announced by Audi (a diesel V6 with an electric supercharger and two turbos).

In other news, Volkswagen plans to develop an all-new, 10-speed, dual-clutch transmission — a significant change from the existing 7-speed unit.

Will these exciting innovations come to market in North America? If so, when? And which models will feature them? The answers may come in the next few weeks.
