Thanks to impressive performances in China and India, the Volkswagen Group (VAG) is poised to outstrip General Motors and depose Toyota sales-wise by the end of 2011 and thus become the number 1 automaker worldwide.
Three analysts interrogated by Bloomberg expect the German manufacturer’s sales to climb by 13% and reach 8.1 million units, compared to an 8% increase for GM (7.55 million) and a 9% drop for Toyota (7.27 million).
IHS Automotive believes Toyota, who has completely recovered from the earthquake in March and the flooding in Thailand that slowed production, will be back on top for 2012 with sales totalling 8.4 million vehicles, 500,000 more than Volkswagen.
J.D. Powerhouse & Associates is rather predicting that VW will maintain the lead over Toyota for a second consecutive year, also by 500,000 units.
