WTCC: Gabriele Tarquini to move to a Volvo in 2012?

|
Former F1 driver Gabriele Tarquini seems to be close to a deal with team Volvo Polestar for next WTCC season, as the Italian driver will already run two Swedish touring car championship rounds with Polestar this season.

Tarquini runs the WTCC championship under Seat’s banner since 2006, a team with which he clinched the world title in 2009. But since the withdrawal of the Spanish team, the Seat Leon Tdi struggle to follow the pace of the Chevrolet Cruze, and even the Polestar Racing’s Volvo C30, which is making stunning WTCC debuts this year with Swede Robert Dahlgren.

Polestar, with the Volvo’s backing, didn’t hide his aim for 2012, which is to run several C30 and fight for podium finishes, and even victories. The arrival of an experimented driver such as Gabriele Tarquini would be quite logical… The Italian, who will run two Swedish touring car championship at the end of the 2011 season (replacing James Thompson), where Polestar is also involved, looks close to a deal with the Swedish brand for the 2012 WTCC season.
