2002 Cadillac Escalade - Big, Bold and Beautiful

"Your ride is dope", is probably not a compliment most Cadillac owners are used to hearing. Yet a certain black 2002 Escalade is becoming an image icon for the teen fans of Canada's Juno award winning hip-hop group (that's music by the way) Swollen Members. You can usually see Vancouver's Mad Child at the wheel with Victoria native Prevail at his side cruising up to every concert in three tons of Cadillac attitude.

Attitude? That's right. Seriously angular, the revamped SUV's shape is original from every corner. Sharp edge headlamps flank one of the most imposing chrome grilles to ever pull into your rear view. Fender bulges incorporate chiseled creases that fuse perfectly with the remaining body cladding, effectively masking what is little more than a GMC Yukon beneath the skin. Look closely and you'll recognize the distinct hood and front fender treatment is shared with the all-new Chevy Avalanche, which virtually mirrors the radical new Escalade EXT.

If you think the styling packs attitude, it's all beef under the hood. No excuses are necessary as its thundering 345-hp OHV V8 leaves rubber under all four wheels. The heavy-duty 4-speed automatic is hardly noticeable when shifting, but nevertheless is robust enough to tow a full 3,856 kg. Cadillac chose an AWD system instead of traditional 4WD, giving the Escalade car-like ease of use. After all, most Escalade owners would cringe at the thought of scratching the lustrous paint on an off-road adventure.
