It's roomy too, with an additional 100 mm (4 in) of cabin width and 152 mm (6.0 in) of length in both Regular Cab and SuperCab body configurations. The Regular Cab also features rearward opening, 'suicide' doors, the first application of its kind in a non-extended pickup. Why the rear access doors when no back seats are there? The doors ease loading and unloading cargo into its much larger behind-the-seat stowage area.

Ford also gives customers the choice of a three exterior box sizes, all approximately 2-inches (50 mm) deeper than the outgoing model and capped with a unique torsion bar assisted tailgate. Its largest Styleside unit is 2,438 mm (8.0 ft) long, with Styleside versions of 1,981 mm (6.5 ft) and 1,676 mm (5.5 ft) boxes also available. A stylish steel and composite constructed Flareside box is also available on STX, SLT and FX4 models.

OK, now I've lost you. What happened to the XL and XLT? Don't worry. Ford wouldn't go and pull the rug out from under the feet of all its faithful customers now would it? The XL continues on as the base model, the workhorse most often chosen by fleet managers and independent contractors alike. It comes in Regular and SuperCab with either vinyl or cloth seats.
