And how can you present a Carroll Shelby exhibit without showcasing the 1967 Ford GT 40 Mark IV "J Car”, the very one that held its own against the Ferraris at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, beating their top speed by nearly 45 km/h? Only 10 units of this special J edition were ever built.
Throw in the original GT350 and 350R, a Shelby Cobra found in almost pristine condition at the back of a barn and the few race Cobras used over the years since 1970, and you have a pretty good idea of the kind of homage that is paid to Carroll Shelby.
Note that Ford also added its two cents, presenting the entire line of production Shelbys and a few prototypes, including the aging but always stunning Cobra GR-1 unveiled in 2005 and kicking out some 605 snorting ponies.
Carroll Shelby still works with Ford and continues to offer advice. But this exhibit alone illustrates very well the incredible mark the man, a true legend, left on American automotive history.
