Combined, the electric motors deliver 402 horsepower–respectable but not overly astonishing in this era. However, its torque output is an eye-popping 981 lb-ft, placing it squarely in Bugatti Veyron territory. Like most of its electronic ilk, the Karma has a single-speed automatic transmission. In Sport mode, the rear-wheel drive Karma sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of just over 210 km/h.
Running purely on electric power, the Karma can travel up to 80 kilometres, but any feeling of range anxiety should be relieved by the GM Ecotec engine, which reportedly extends the range up to 483 km.
It's been over three years since the first unveiling of the Karma concept, and although the production car was slated to arrive in 2009, that date has been extended several times. Fisker plans to sell 7,000 cars in 2011 with a release date of late spring.
The Karma is being built by Valmet Automotive in Finland, the same factory producing the Porsche Boxster and Cayman.
There currently are three Fisker dealers here in Canada: Fisker of Calgary, Fisker of Vancouver and Fisker of Toronto. While there's no verified Canadian pricing as yet, it should sticker at just over $100,000.
