The all-new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback will be available for purchase in Canada starting at $20,980, or $1,770 less than the 2018 Corolla iM. Toyota Canada made the announcement today, providing full details and pricing info for the model it hopes will quickly win over hatchback-loving Canadian consumers once it appears at dealerships this coming August 15th.
In addition to its new design and the new TNGA Toyota platform underpinning it, the most salient details concern the new 2.0L engine, more powerful and fuel-economical, according to Toyota, and the first appearance of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 package, included standard.
The new platform has allows the company’s engineers to give the model a lower and stockier stance, making it more athletic in appearance. The contours are sportier, and they’re accompanied by a rear spoiler, also offered standard. Other standard outside elements include LED front and rear lights.
Under the hood of the Corolla Hatchback is a new 2L 4-cylinder Dynamic Force engine that delivers 168 hp and improved fuel efficiency (official combined figures are 6.7L/100 km with the CVT transmission, and 7.5L/100 km the manual gearbox. The first of these is a 10-speed Direct Shift CVT with a Sport mode; the other is a 6-speed intelligent manual.
The body is 60% more rigid than Toyota’s previous compact hatch offering, which Toyota says ensures reduced noise and vibration and improved stability and road grip.
Safety
The Corolla Hatchback is the first Toyota to be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. This updated safety package adds new active-safety technologies and capabilities that enhance protection such as a Pre-Collision System that can detect a pedestrian under low light conditions or a bicyclist during daytime, a Lane Departure Alert able to detect the road’s edge and a new Lane Trace Assist (LTA) system that reduces driver burden and supports safe driving, especially in traffic congestion or long highway trips, when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is engaged.
This package complements the Star Safety System, a standard backup camera, seven air bags, electronic parking brake, and other technologies.
Inside, every 2019 Corolla Hatchback comes standard equipped with a number of welcome amenities, including Apple CarPlay and the Entune 3.0 Audio multimedia system, featuring the Entune App Suite and navigation provided by Scout GPS Link. There are also an 8-inch-display audio system with USB audio input and voice recognition, automatic air conditioning and push-button start.
Versions
The first three versions of the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback are offered with a choice of either of the two transmissions mentioned above.
The S features power windows with up/down function on all windows, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, sport fabric seat material and 15-inch steel wheels.
SE adds 16-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, an anti-theft system and unique badging. CVT-equipped models also receive steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The SE Upgrade builds on the SE trim level with a heated steering wheel, 18-inch alloy wheels, the Blind Spot Monitor safety system, and the Qi wireless charging system for personal electronics.
The XSE starts with the SE Upgrade model, adding integrated Sirius XM Satellite Radio and the enhanced Entune 3.0 Premium Audio system with Safety Connect and embedded navigation. Other upgrades include dual auto climate control, sport fabric seating material with leatherette trim, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, 7-inch multi-information display, and LED fog lamps.
